Welcome to the Arthropods of San Diego County!
This reference site has many purposes such as help you narrow down an ID for a critter you may have seen, introduce you to some species you may not have known even existed, and hopefully show you the absolute beauty of nature's little critters here in San Diego County.
This site is different than other identification sites as all critters were photographed in situ unless otherwise noted. The images are not uniform but rather organic, just as in nature.
This Phylum consists of over 80% of all living animals. Arthropods have an exoskeleton, segmented body parts and jointed appendages.
These organisms I have photographed in San Diego County and have identified with the help of Project Noah, BugGuide and a stack of reference books. Thank you to those who have helped with identification!
Clicking on images will direct you to the page for that Superorder, Order or Class. I'm updating the site regularly with new species so be sure to check back!
